Palliative Drawing Sessions with Olav Westphalen

In a series of simple exercises and experiments, drawing is employed as a means to heighten our awareness of subtle physical and mental processes. Can drawing give us access to parts of ourselves that are otherwise inaccessible? The sequence we will be testing out is not based on any research and makes no claim to work in any way.

No previous knowledge of drawing necessary, max. 12 participants.
Event held in German and English

Olav Westphalen is an artist living in Stockholm. His work exposes the blind spots of the social and cultural contexts he inhabits. It frequently takes the form of games, experiments or awkward entertainment. He is a professor for drawing at the University of the Arts, Bremen. Together with Marcus Weimer, he has been publishing cartoons and comics in German speaking print media under the pseudonym Rattelschneck since the 1980s. In 2020, he co-founded the Association for the Palliative Turn (APT). His work has been exhibited internationally, at institutions such as at the Whitney Museum, the ICA London, the Swiss Institute, NY, the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, and the Brandenburgischer Kunstverein, Potsdam.
