Artist Talk by Mirjam Thomann: Theory & Action

Friday, 18.11., 7 pm

Mirjam Thomann’s main interest is to reflect on and transcend architectural, social and institutional orders by means of sculpture, installation and text. In her works, she uses the exhibition site as an occasion, as a space and structure that she activates and expands. Characteristics such as reusability, combinability and mobility of materials and fixtures play a decisive role here. In her artist talk, Thomann will use her text, “The Feminist’s House”, published in Texte zur Kunst in 2021, as a starting point to present some of the exhibition projects of recent years, focusing in particular on the conditions under which they came into being,

Ein Haus für Künstler*innen is a series of events that follows on from the internal discussion of a suitable gender-appropriate name for the Künstlerhaus Bremen. Through lectures, discussions, workshops and artistic contributions by guests, the series aims to give space to external perspectives on the question and to include other institutions and artists' residences under the name of “Künstlerhaus” in the discussion.
In cooperation with the Mariann Steegmann Institute. Art & Gender of the University of Bremen and the HfK Bremen (Seminar “Artistic and Design Production Spaces of the Future” by Mona Schieren)
