Peter Piller

For over 15 years Peter Piller (*1968, Fritzlar, lives and works in Hamburg) has been collecting and archiving found photographs. They are often postcards or photographic documents from newspaper articles and estates, which he bundles into thematic or formal series under the title Archiv Peter Piller. In the summer exhibition Das Loch his series In Löcher blicken (looking at holes) was on view at the Künstlerhaus Bremen. In addition to the Archiv Peter Piller, Piller also occasionally produces drawings and photographs. His no less well-known office drawings date from the time when Piller worked part-time at the Carat advertising agency in Hamburg to finance his art. In a humorous way, he deals with the everyday absurdities and inadequacies of everyday office life.

Peter Piller has received several awards for his artistic work, for example the Edwin Scharff Prize of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (2011). Since 2006 he has held a professorship for photography at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig.
