We generally pay little attention to our own shadow. Seldom are we conscious of the fact that we are shadow-bearers, and our interest in the manifestation of light that is inseparably linked with persons and objects is small. Yet the shadow itself has a certain autonomy, despite its dependence on a carrier: it eschews any grasp from without. It is a dark and silent pursuer, an omnipresent doppelganger, leaving his trail in the light. An ephemeral construct which is perceived only by the eye.
The exhibition Zweimal hat ihn niemand gesehen is devoted to that fascinating phenomenon of a temporary local dearth of light, which it approaches at a formal level. The artistic positions gathered here explore various features of the shadow, partly capturing it, and even partly heightening its fleetingness.
The exhibition is being sponsored by the Heinz A. Bockmeyer Stiftung and the Waldemar Koch Stiftung.
