Christiane Gruber

Christiane Gruber (*1977 in Sögel, lives and works in Bremen) uses the archetypal materials of painting in her works, above all color. However, she does not paint with them, but rather shapes them into wall objects or sculptures. The power and the plasticity of color are in the foreground in Gruber’s works. Her editions for the Künstlerhaus are wall objects produced in small series, made of wrapped layers of acrylic paint mounted on miniature stretcher frames. Through clear forms and reduced colors, the artist also focuses on materiality.

Christiane Gruber studied at the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen and has been one of the artists who have been working in a studio at Künstlerhaus Bremen since 2013. In 2015 she won the Ottersberg Art Prize and was nominated for the Bremen Prize for the Promotion of Visual Arts in 2016.
